    '65 A/C Fans

5th Edition '65 JG calls out #3770529 as the std 5 blade fan, with blades measuring 4.00" X 5.68" and a diameter of 17 1/8".

It then states "Air conditioned cars use a seven-blade assembly for more efficient cooling. It is part #3853943. The blades are 4.00" X 6.12"
before shaping with an overall diameter of 18 inches.".

    Semi-derelict 1965 #23561 - L79, C60, K66, N40, etc - had/has a FIVE blade fan; the blades measure 4.00" X 6.12" AND the diameter is 18 inches.

The AIM C60 illustration (generic??) shows a FIVE blade fan and calls out its part number as 5853943 (a typo??)

None of the parts books I have call out #3853943 as a SEVEN blade fan of 18" diameter. Who's got one?

    Loren,

I think we hashed this out about 18 months ago. You may check the Archives. The general agreement was that most (if not all) actually used the 5 blade fan. I had raised the question when we were ready to buy a fan for our 66 AC coupe.

Loren - The 1965 Corvette AIM calls out 5853943 as you noted and the illustration is probably a carry over from the 1963 Corvette AIM or illustrator's license. What do you expect from the General??????? The Chevrolet P&A 30, Revised October 1, 1966 shows 5853943 (G/N 1.064) for '64-'66 Corvette w/ C.A.C. (Car Air Conditioning) (1st design) (18"dia. , 7 blades - 4 bolt circle) and they only cost $7.60.

All the "original" '64-'65 Corvettes w/ C60 I have checked out have had the 7 blade assembly. I do not believe this fan blade was used in 1966 and it is not one of the part numbers called out in the '66 Corvette AIM in the C60 section. The 1966 Corvette AIM calls out two fan blade assemblies for 327 engines w/ C60 and these are both have 5 blades and are 18" dia.

Noland's book also discusses the 7 blade assembly. Hope this helps. Pete
