C2 HEAVY DUTY DIESEL OIL USE

I've read nothing but good things regarding using heavy duty diesel oil. I'd like to try it in my '66 stock, small block that has not been rebuilt. Is anything special required to be done before switching to it, or do I just begin by replacing my oil with it at the next normal oil change interval? Also...any recommendation on the weight and brand...I live in S. Cal, and the temp never really goes below 45F.

i've used dexon hd 10-30 for years . its available at the exon/esso distributors in 5 gal or 55 gal barrels--way less $ compared to a qt at a time athe the Exon/Esso station. mike

I used it in a leaking power steering rack that nothing else would stop. It held for nearly a year before it started leaking again. It was a little stiff in the winter for about 5 mnutes but after that it was fine.

Just add as required to your current oil and use CI-4 at the next oil change. The common mineral oil based multigrade CI-4 is 15W-40, which is perfect year round for California's mild climate.

I buy Chevron Delo at Costco, and you should find at least one the the major national brands - Chevron Delo, Shell Rotella, or Mobile Delvac at any McParts stores.

The most commonly available size is a gallon jug.

Well, that's interesting. CI-4 has only been around for a little over a year!
Maybe it has something to due with the new low sulphur diesels fuels that will soon be required.

As of the last article that I read, the new oil MAY not be backwards compatable, that is meets specs for earlier engines. Written in July the article went on to say that none of the major oil manufacturers would comment on compatiblilty. New ultra low sulphur engines are also requiring use of a converter of some sorts. That is also up in the air. Different engine manufacturers are using different technologies. Stay tuned, you ain't seen nothing yet by the time EPA gets through.

That's the EPA's "Tier 2, Bin 5" diesel emissions regulation that goes into effect in 2007; particulate traps aren't enough to meet it, and the EPA isn't buying the Urea injection systems that will. More fun to come.

                  Dick, that's correct.

Dick, that's correct. It won't work on some engine configurations-stay tuned
