I used the repro BFG on an original knock-off wheel and lowered the air pressure to about 12 pounds before it would fit. The tire is still in the original tub and I did get it to close completely without too much force. I had the car judged this way and all went well. If you really want a spare that fits, you will most likely have to do what Joe did and buy a non DOT original used or new tire OR run with the repro BFG with low air pressure and carry a small air compressor just in case. I'd bet that almost every midyear Corvette out there with repro and radial tires is in the same position since there is no way the current radial tire sizes will fit in the tub either.
