I was examining the kit for my 67 SB car at a local parts house, and noticed that the throwout bearing included in the kit appeared different then the GM part I am replacing. The ring/slot where the fork attaches appears to be made out of plastic. Anyone have any experience with this and have comments?

Tim-----
What you're describing is, basically, the new design clutch release bearings. The current GM bearing (but, not the old GM bearing you're replacing) is VERY similar in design to the LUK unit, except that I think the GM bearing shell is all metal. So, if you want an all-metal bearing, you might opt for a GM #15680264 aka Delco # CT24AG.
However, I believe that either the LUK unit or the current design GM unit will perform BETTER than the original bearing. Whether they APPEAR so, or not, this is an IMPROVED design; NOT a retrograde design. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Tim,
I installed a new Luk clutch kit on my '67 BB, but used a GM metal throwout bearing. Guess I just figured I couldn't go wrong with the metal one and didn't want to worry if any problems I might have were due to the plastic one.- Top

I replaced the metal throw-out with the new plastic style. The squeeking I had is gone and the pedal is very smooth.
