    C2 Spare Tire Tub Fit

I have my new Corvette Central exhaust system on my 66 small block roadster set to provide clearance under the rear leaf spring on both sides (right side is tighter than left)and through the rear valence panel exhaust openings. However, I'm having difficulty getting the spare tire tub to fit between the mufflers. The spare tire tub is a used replacement.

Are there any tips to getting the proper clearance here? How much clearance is typical between the mufflers and the tub outside diameter? I haven't had a chance to check another 66 to inspect this fit.

    Regards,

    Dave,

Is your exhaust system the one piece version, with the mufflers already welded in at the proper angle?

And are the rear pipes far enough over the forward intermediary pipes where they go through the crossmember? IF they are not seated far enough the rear pipes will hit the spare tire tub.

          Joe,

I'm pretty sure that I pushed the rear pipes up to the crease flange on the front pipe (1 1/2 to 2 in. inward).

            Dave,

That should make it easier to get the proper clearance, since you shouldn't have to worry whether the mufflers are at the right angle on the pipe.
