re joy of flight judging john waggoner jack thanks for an important lesson about judging it is a very inexpensive way to have your car inspected from stem to stern for suggestions of ways to make it better you could spend weeks doing the same thing yourself and still not have the variety of opinion available on the judging field i have always advocated that the first step to restoring a car is to have it judged that is before you have done anything more than wash it judges are not always right but they can and do provide food for thought and a pretty through list of things to work from double check their accuracy by having it judged again by another group of judges

Re: Joy of Flight Judging
re joy of flight judging jack humphrey i wholehartedly agree with your words john as rocky mtn judging chair my motto is have your car judged early and have it judged often the best time to start is the day before you buy it also many expect everything they hear in a concours judging event is the truth not so judges are human bottom line is whether you're an owner or a judge we're all ncrs members so expect errors of commission and errors of omission as you would from any human source take the deductions inputs as items for research and learning after you've had your car judged the first time you're just ready to start having it judged you'll learn something everytime out some find this confusing fickle compared to other corvette factory concours circuits e g bloomington chevy vettefest not so the majority of ncrs alternative judging events are invitation only and it's rare they see the same car twice we at ncrs have scads of events during the course of each year chapter regional national meets you'll find different people with different and unique knowledge each time out so if you have your car judged then fix every deduction on your flight score sheets you can expect the next time you sally forth to get a totally new punchlist this is what some see as ncrs inconsistency it's not it's simply a reflection of the human condition and why an ncrs mark of excellence award duntov mcclellen is so hard to come by they're the corvette equivalent of the saga of beowulf you have multiple eyes on your car over a period of time that's hard to beat if you're into learning and appreciating a true factory concours- Top

Re: Joy of Flight Judging
re joy of flight judging bill clupper i too have had a car or two judged over the years and judged a few myself i've always held to the belief that a notation on the judging sheet was an indication of where to start my research the judges aren't always right and some judges have different areas of expertise than others but they can do a superb job of showing you where to investigate the possibility of improving your car your research may occasionally prove a judge wrong but the areas where the judge is right can save you a lot of time and effort by simply point the car owner in the right direction for research on how to restore an area of the car once for good the car's that are the most fun to judge and also the most difficult are the one's where the owner is looking for improvements to work on it's a hobby we work on the cars for fun right clup- Top

Joy of Flight Judging
joy of flight judging jack humphrey i hear all kinds of feedback on ncrs flight judging i find it fun and informative both as a judge and an owner on the latter let me pass along a goodie my ' bb x top flight duntov bloomington gold triple crown mainly lives in the garage but my ' sb a c roadster comes out to play in the streets i take 'er for flight judging maybe once a year gluton for punishment no i learn something everytime last april at the ncrs regional in albuquerque i had 'lil red' ' on the field for flight judging with milage driven credit i took home a top flight ribbon you can drive 'em and show 'em reba whittington put on her judging face and strod into my interior during owner debrief she tells me i'm missing the three rubber pif's push in fastners from my rear compartment upright carpet what pif's i accept her deduct and begin to think you know i have been fighting a random water leak for the last few years had to pull the jack from its stowage compartment twice to blast off rust and repaint different folks have offered different advice but nothing seemed to fix the water leak i pulled out my trusty aim and looked closely at the carpet install pages nope no pif's called out check ' ' aims too boot again pif's in front carpet along fire wall but no pif's in rear carpet i check out a few local original shark cars yep pif's are in the rear upright just like reba said but these are all coupes and i've got a convertible soooo i peal back the rear carpet there's the original factory jute and sob there are three nicely shaped cutout holes in the jute lining up with three holes in the rear panel's fibreglass wow how could the factory dwgs be wrong error of omission for so many years well sir i plug these suckas and put 'er to the test let 'er sit out in the rain rare in denver twice for hours rear compartment is dry as a bone seems convertible's placement of rear air vent extractor grille lines up nice with the rear compartment's back upright when it rains water flows into the vent down the fibreglass upright and without the pif's in place wicks nicely into the rear compartment jute so i thank reba in private and do so again here thanks reba and want others to know flight judging can be healthy where else can you get corvette experts to go over your car with a fine tooth comb for the better part of a day at the ridiculous price of what's the minimum wage these days oh yeah sometimes there's friction on the judging field and you'll see a temper flare here there but this is a sport hobby relax have fun with your car in the sun and learn enjoy typically the bad things happen at ncrs because there are at least two people with thin skins and improper expectations judge and owner- Top

Re: Joy of Flight Judging
re joy of flight judging reba how right you are about judging and attitude it is a joy to judge a car when the owner wants constructive and informative notes and it is pure torture for owner and the judge when the owner arrives with the attitude that my car is right and you can't tell me otherwise i continue to learn something new whenever i judge with a new partner or travel to a different part of the country by the way jack thanks for the compliment to me- Top
