    intake & exhaust valves

Its been 40 years since I have adjusted solid lifter valves on a 1960 283 c.i. engine. So to some of you this may seem like a stupid question, but when looking at the number 1 cylinder which valve is to the left(intake or exhaust?) and which is to the right. I don't see this diagramed in any of my reference books.

starting at the front of the engine, E,I,I,E,E,I,I,E. #1 cly is the first one on the drivers side of the engine.

Don --- Motorman is correct; however, you'd only have to write down the valve order that he quoted if your intake AND exhaust manifolds were removed. Otherwise, just look at where the exhaust (manifold) and intake runners line up with -- that defines whether it's an intake or exhaust valve/port.

        Don -

Intake and exhaust valves are directly in line with their respective ports.
