    C2 - 1965 front sway bar clearance

Can someone please tell me what is the spec/clearance between the front sway bar and the radiator shroud? I have looked in all my books and can't find a thing.

My radiator shroud is almost touching the sway bar. I had to remove the shims on the frame where the radiator support sits just to get the radiator support and shroud to align and fit between the front fenders. Something just doesn't seem right the way it is now. Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

Something doesn't sound right. Odds are you should have almost as many shims on the core support and the frame as at any other positition. Granted each mount is different, but it isn't likely they have none while the others have a lot.

Is this a new support? New shroud? Do you know the history of the car and has the front end been repaired or replaced?

One thing to check is whether the sway bar is installed upside down. On my 67 the sway bar dips down slightly between the frame rails. I think it is possible to install it upside down, so that it bows up between the frame rails instead. That would bring it closer to the fan shroud.

        Joe and Floyd------

Yes, that's the only thing that I can think of that would cause the sway bar to have any possibilty of interfering with the radiator shroud. There is no "spec" for the sway bar-to-fan shroud clearance because this is a non-critical dimension and, with parts properly installed, there should be no clearance problems, at all.

Re: C2 - 1965 front sway bar clearance - Mike

Mike, it has a new repro radiator support and original shroud. I have owned this vette since december of 65, I am the second owner and it has never been hit or front end repaired. I did a body off restoration and put the body back on about 8 months ago. I just put in a new Dewitts repro radiator and that is when I ran into this problem.

          Thanks

Joe and Joe, That is a good point, thought I had installed it correctly but I will double check it tomarrow and let you know.
