need buying advice for 67 big block

    Hello everyone,

I am currently in the market for a 1967 big block car. I know with the proliferation of parts that a car can be falsified. Any advice on how to spot a true 427 car? Also, I am leaning towards a 390 hp car since I assume it will give me less headaches. Any advice or thoughts on the differences between the 3 motors (390, 400, 435hp) would be appreciated.

    Thanks

    Take someone who knows them.

The 390 is the one to buy if you want to drive it. The tripower can be its own set of headaches and if you can afford the 435 hp, I want to be your friend.

      Gary,

There's no substitute for prior ownership history. In my opinion, at the prices for the cars now, it's a must, and I don't mean a Dealer's word on where the car has been. I would only try to buy from a seller who either is or can put you in contact with the current owner, as well as previous owners.

Agree Rob, but in some cases like mine the former owner has passed away and that's why the car became available for me to purchase... that puts a damper on the past owners role in the car history tree....sad to say.

          Gary,

If you can find someone, or better yet two people, if really helps when you look the car over. I looked over the car I recently bought 3 times, very carefully, and still found a small thing or two I missed later. An extra set of eyes, or two really helps. When you inspect the car, do it in stages, first just the body, then the frame, etc. It really helps if you make up a note card with all the correct #s(engine stamping, differential, transmission, alternator, etc.) of the items that are important to you for the particular car you're looking at. That will insure that you want have any major surprises later. Good luck...
