    C1 Horn Shocks

Can anyone give me a clue as to find out why my horn button shocks me when I blow the horn on my '59. All wiring is new, as is the horn contact assembly. It shocks if either right or left horn is connected and changing the relay didn't help. All components seem o.k., I'm thinking its in the wiring somewhere???????? Anyone had this problem? Thanks, Eric

    Hi Eric

You say your wiring is new? Wires are connected properly? Make sure the horns are grounded good. If this wiring is new, did the problem exsist before with the old wiring. If not, then check to see if any wires in the hub became bare and are shorting out on the horn button etc. But double check all the wires coming out of the column.
    Just my 2 cents.............Good luck....John

Normally this happens when a ground is missing, or not properly breaking thru the paint to make contact. Make sure all star washers are between the terminal on the wiring and the metal contact surface, not under the bolt head.

You get shocked because the circuit finds it easier to go to ground through you rather than where it's supposed to go. When mine did that, it was because the upper bearing ring - where the plunger contacted - was dirty. When I cleaned that up, the electrons found it easier to go that way as opposed to going through me.

Thank you gentlemen, I will double check all of the above. To Answer your questions:all connections are correct, this problem didn't happen prior to disassembly, the upper column bearing is new (I will check for paint here) and as I recall, I get continuity from the horn bodies to ground. I also get continuity to ground if I disconnect the horn connection under the steering column and test that segment of the wire goint towards the firewall. That don' seem right! Thanks for your input and "two cents". Eric
