    Garage-Shop Construction Progress

Many thanks to all who assisted with my learning about and relenquishing fear about epoxy application on my new garage and shop floor. Also, this is the first time I have attempted to post photos, so here goes.

Okay, that worked. Now here is a photo looking through the shop toward my blaster cabinet and storage room.

Looks good. Now that Ford blue wall ....

Another way you can post them is to take that link you pasted and paste it in the field titled "Optional Image URL:". When you do, be sure to check the beginning to see that it says "http:/" and not "http://http:/" as sometimes people paste the link in after the existing http:/ instead of in place of it.

Kent, nice job. Are you still out in the swamps by the Locke estate?

Looks great - nice masking job! Also, if you re-size (or shoot originally) your images to 640x480, they'll come up screen-size and won't require scrolling in either direction to see the entire image.

            Ken---
We are just north of Orlando. Bill moved to NY and NC (summer & winter).
Hope to see you in January at Kissimmee.

              Mike & John----
Thanks for the suggestions. Guess I'll have to reset the camera for less intense images. Somehow, I missed the Optional Image URL. We'll try it next time (without a double http).

This time, I'll try posting directly to the Discussion Board.
The first photo is of my garage with shop beyond. This has been a DIY construction ordeal ( )lasting over two years and we are nearing completion. Just received final electrical inspection acceptance. Now to complete the plumbing and attic insulation. A little finishing touch here and there after moving the Corvettes in and we're done!

                  Re: Garage-Shop (Shop Pic)

This is the shop sans bench and equipment. Blaster cabinet and storage room is beyond. My wife can hardly wait ... there's so much else to be done around the house.

                      Glad you escaped South Florida.
What did you use to mask off the floor? What kind of paint. I am just starting to remodel my garage and am debating painting the floor.

                        Epoxy Paint

                        Ken----

I used PPG Aquapon epoxy paint from Porter Paints (there are many others). First, I acid etched the concrete and rinsed it several times. It dried for a week with no traffic of any type before proceeding. Then after rolling on the first coat of white epoxy, there were several indentations in the concrete not pleasing to the desired finish. So, after hand sanding the spots, I filled them with Bondo Concrete, Brick & Stucco Repair Compound being certain to finish it to prevent the need for final sanding. Two more coats of white were rolled on prior to using blue painters tape to form a grid. At each square to remain white, tape was applied on two sides aligning the sides with the grid tape. The "black" squares had two sides of the tape grid removed to get the corner to corner appearance. One coat of black epoxy was carefully rolled on only the black square areas. After a couple of days, the tape was removed.

Two notes to remember if doing some design on an epoxy floor using painters tape: 1 - Burnish the finish edges of the final tape down hard to the floor to prevent bleeding of one color onto the other, and 2 - Protect the first painted area(s) to remain when applying the second color.

There are several epoxy manufacturers/retailers out there. PPG epoxy has a strong odor that, if I had realized prior to my use, I would have chosen another less toxic odor emitting product.

If you need any other photos en-process, or anything else with which I can help, please email me.
