    engine rebuild

66 327/300hp original engine going in for a rebuild this month by a reputable vette restorer, i live in the northeast and car will not be used for 5 months after rebuild, any problems with a newly rebuilt engine sitting for that long without running and any precautions i should take? thanks, joe

I'll take a crack at this.

First, why not wait to have engine rebuilt just before you need it? If that is not possible make sure what ever warrenty you get doesn't start till you put the engine in.

Second, if you do have to store it, make sure the rebuilder knows this, he should know proper procedure to keep engine in tact till you need it. Put old set of plugs in to keep critters out, block off intake and exhaust ports and any other opening. I would wipe down any exposed non painted metal with something like WD40 to keep it from rusting.

Finally, cover entire engine with something that will let some air in, an old car cover works good.Hope this helps
