    VIN plate

Morning all! My VIN plate states:

    CHEVROLET DD
    194675S100048

My question is what the " DD " stands for?
    Thank you.

    Re: VIN plate

DD is short for delivery date. Meaning the date that the car was recieved by it's first owner.

This date was important to the dealer when performing warranty work and is found in the owner protection booklet or warranty book as they are known in this area. The delivery date would be found in the back of the booklet with the Pro Tecto Plate data in 1965.

Dealers were supposed to stamp the delivery date on the VIN plate but the vast majority did not.

Keep Posted, Andries, with that real early '65

... we may have some future questions on the first days of 1965 model year production, and your car, if in fairly original condition, may be able to provide some answers.

                Re: Does this work?

Because of the low serial number of your car it is of some interest. I failed to point thst out in my original response. Wayne has very naturally caught that. Reading you profile brings about further interest due to the cars export history.

There does appear to be the need for a little clarification. In your initial post you give the VIN as 194675S100048 which is a convertible. In your profile you list the VIN as 194375S100048 which is a coupe. Unfortunately the fourth character in the photo you posted is not clear enough to determine if it is a 3 for coupe or 6 for convertible. The ECL BG in the trim code would indicate a convertible.

I suspect the VIN in your profile has a type-o. For the record which is it?

If you look at the trim tag, you see a 467.

Not only does it work, you can read the numbers. Pretty cool that it is the 16th St. Louis convertible body.

Didn't the VIN tags in '65 use rosette rivets?

                        Re: VIN plate

Not the early cars. Rosette rivets came later in the year. Nolands book speaks of this on page 54. He has a list showing the first reported car with a rosette as 194675S107811 with a mix through 194675S109998. As this book is somewhat dated now I don't know what the current thinking is on the end of reound stainless stell rivets and the beginning of rosette stainless steel rivets.

                          Convertible or Coupe

Sorry for the confusion, yes it is a convertible and I changed it in my profile. Thank you for the interest in our Corvette, hope I can help answering your questions.
