    C-2 Lower Shock Mount Bushing

Is it possible to replace just the pressed-in, rubber bushing or cushion at the lower attaching point of the front shock absorber. This bushing contains the lower mount on the shock with two screws to attach to the lower A-arm. The left front lower bushing keeps falling out causing a loud clunk when driving over bumps. Is there a way to replace the rubber with a new one or something close, perhaps using a press?

Not that I know of. Plus, I know of nowhere to obtain the bushing. I think that these are manufactured either by vulcanizing the bushing in-place or forming the bushing eye around the bushing/bracket assembly. Most likely, the latter.

It might be possible to press the bushing/bracket out using an hydraulic press. Then, using a piece of rubber stock or heavy wall rubber tubing fashion a new bushing and insert it with the bracket. The problem is that you're not going to be able to get a tight fit, as-original. So, you may wind up right where you're at now after a lot of effort.

Unless the shocks are "matching numbers" originals, I would just replace them. If they are "matching numbers" originals, then replace them for now and save the originals in case anyone figures out a way to rebuild these things in the future.

Joe, Thanks! I'll probably replace the two fronts and save them as you suggest.
