66 Dash Knob Removal and Restoration

I am freshening up my dash. I removed all of the knobs except for pull knob for turning on the headlights. It does not appear to have a set screw. I thought it might twist off like the fan knob but it seems pretty tight. I thought I would ask before applying more force. Also, any tricks, outside of taping, on painting the black circle aree without getting paint on the metal finsish inside the knob?

    Thanks,
    Mike

Michael, there is a trick to removing this knob. There is a release on the bottom of the switch itself that looks like a small nailhead. If you push this up into the switch, the knob and shaft assembly will be released. You may have to jiggle the knob while gently pulling outward to get the switch to release the shaft.
