    Cleaning Glass

This may not be very technical, but it is annoying. I have a 2003 roadster that is a daily driver, I have what appears to be permanent water spots on the glass that I can not get off. The car is dried everytime it is washed, so this has to be from rain, is it acid rain? Does anyone know of product that will take it off? I have some in the paint also, but this is coming off using a cleaner polish.

    Thank you,

    George

sounds like acid rain as i had the same problem with my 99 C-5. some people say "white vinegar" will remove the spots. a detail shop removed mine with "brass wool" not steel wool. i used "rain X" every time i washed the car after that and that seemed to prevent it from happening again. check with a car detailer in your area

Also do not wash with hard water. Lighter fluid also removes those stains.

You can use clay products for polishing your car. I have used haze remover for glass doors on fire places. Worked great for me. Terry

I'd use the least abrasive chemical, or scraper of choice first, and work up from there. What about a razor blade as if removing a sticker?
Perhaps the plastic rear window haze removers might work?
Ask your dealer. They might surprise you with an answer.

I've always used Bon Ami scouring powder. It is very fine (diatomacious earth, I think)and will not scratch the glass. It is great for removing that road film that always seems to coat the windshield, so maybe it will work for your condition. Just my 2 cents.

George, For years I have cleaned glass on my cars with two steps that are very easy and work extremely well. First, I spray brake cleaner on a cotton rag and wipe the exterior of the glass to remove all grease and airborne grit. Then, I apply a "Glass Polish" that can be obtained at Pep Boys or other stores. I am always amazed at how clear the glass becomes after cleaning. Finally, and not always, I apply Rain-X. Good Luck.

It could be hard water ,acid rain or acid from a car wash. There is a bulletin from G.M. on incorrectly mixed cleaners at some car washes. This acid will etch all your glass and will not come off. It does not hurt paint. It looks like water spots or streaks left by dried soap film. We have had about 6 cars with all the glass damaged. It is not covered by warranty..Bill

                    To all,

Many great responses, I will try some of them this weekend. It is not a car wash problem, the car has never been to one.

The hard water might be an issue. We have had our water tested and were told it is border line hard, I can't recall the number, and don't know where the material is right now. The gentleman who did the test was not a high pressure salesman, and really didn't think we needed a softener system.

I guess I always thought since I dried the car off everytime I washed it there was no worry. Any thoughts to the contrary?

                    Thanks again,

                    Georeg
