My question lies with the Standt Gas cap shown in the judging manual. The rivet with the the stamped "S" is shown perpendicular to the handle. I and several others have original Standt Caps which show the "S" paralell to the handle. At a recent judged meet my gas cap did not match the photo in the manual so points were deducted, only because nobody knew what was correct so the photo won. Does anyone know if it makes no difference which way the "S" is positioned or is the photo incorrect. My reason for thinking the photo is incorrect is with the "S" in that position it would be almost impossible to clinch the rivet and usually when the rivet is clinched there are two vertical scores one on either side of the "S". If you have one of these caps look at it and you will see what I saying. Thanks.

Re: C1 Gas Cap
I can't belive you had points deducted. Maybe if the photo was turned they would given you bonus points.
I have seen caps either way and half way in between, with the S at an angle to the tabs. Either way there should not have been any points deducted for this.
If this the way of judging, then we have gone overboard. Hope no one drowns in the process.- Top

You wrote "At a recent judged meet my gas cap did not match the photo in the manual so points were deducted, only because nobody knew what was correct so the photo won."
First, the judges, not knowing what is correct for the gas cap, should have consulted with the team leader so they would be more knowledgeable judges. Second, if there was a question about the gas cap and their team leader couldn't be assured of correct configuration, you should have been awarded the points. This is the process I learned before being allowed to judge, team lead and chair the judging at Cypress Gardens for 10+ years.
Good luck next time,
