It looks like one of the fiber optic boots from either the front right or left turn signal. There should be an amber lens in it and the fiber optic cable plugs into it. I might be wrong but that is what I think it is. Terry

        Terry,
Under the forward console or on the park lamp itself?

          Yikes Dennis

It's only a 1/4 inch long. I'd be embarassed if it was in my wallet, even when I was a young k--- hound.

Plugs into the back of the front right or left signal light that is attached to the grill is what I am thinking. Terry

Does it have a hole at the tappered end?

I might be totally wrong though. I know 68 real well. I don't recognize it from anything else. Was it a plug for vaccum tubing?

                Terry,

No hole and definately not a plug for vacuum. Too soft. Kinda looks like a very soft rubber tip for a luggage rack - slightly smaller than that hard plastic one on a rack. I stoopified.

                  Hi Geoffrey

One question: Do you have any trouble with your neighbors or your family?

Best way to keep a Corvette driver busy (and of course out of the house) is to place some oil drops or strange parts under his car ...

                  Just kidding ;-))

Weird. I know my 68 very well. The only thing I don't know is an air car. Hmmmmm, sort of has me going. Well, it will give me something to think about when I am at work today.

Could it be used to protect the threads of a screw? There were some of those on 68's. If your car is a convert? Could it be some sort of bumper for that/rear deck lid? Hmmmmm...

                    Take care, Terry

                      Geoffrey,
If you look at the assembly manual UPC 12, B4.5 you will see attached to the back of the tach a valve part of tach asm that has 3 vacuum ports, which 2 have tubing attached to....my bet is your mystery part is the cap for the third, unused port.

                        additionally...

That valve appears to be part of the wiper door assembly. Does your wiper door function properly?
