    75/80 Dragway in Maryland

just in case you are interested - 75/80 Dragway is due to close at the end of 2005 - this has been an historical dragstrip here in Maryland that has been in operation since the early 1960's - I believe this weekend is the last RACE WEEKEND!

I plan on driving my 2001 Vette out and making a pass and getting a picture taken. Anyone else interested, hope to see ya'll there!

BTW - pass on to anyone else you think might be interested in making a run, or watching

FYI - is a link to the track

Rick: owner of 75/80 been threatening to sell the drag strip to developers for years. my first drag strrip experience was there in 1961. blew clutch plate in the 394 olds powered 49 chevy. local farmer gave us permission to remove the clutch disc out of a 41 caddy limo on his farm. bunch of us rolled the limo on its side, pulled the 3 speed and clutch assembly, retuned to 75/80, installed the disc in my 49, and drove the 100 miles back to cumberland, getting home about 2 am. parents pissed. lets hope he's gonna re-open in the spring. BTW, after you leave 75/80, come on up to cumberland airport. we are autox'ing sat and sunday with picnic at our farm sat evening. regards, mike

we were in nashville just last week for a invited muscle car show with john and he had the car on display. he has been made offers since he proved that the car is real but has not taken any yet. not enought "0s" on the checks.

            Hi Rick -
I'll be there. End of an era - very sad. Was racing at 75/80 in 1960.....
Mike - I think it's for real this time. A retirement home has reportedly bought the land from Wilcom. (Do you think they should name it "The Shut Down Area"?)

Do you remember a candy red 1969 L89 racing there in the early 1970's?

Sorry, Mark, I don't specifically remember that car, but there's a lot I don't remember from the '70's.... I was racing a 57 BelAir, a '58 Corvette, and an Anglia. Great times!
