1967 427 casting date

I am trying to deciper the casting date for a 1967 427/390 block. The number is F207. I thought that big blocks had at two digit number to denote the year, so shouldn't it read F2067 (June 20, 1967)?

I used to think so, too. However, apparently, many pre-1970 Tonawanda castings have only a 1 digit coding for year.

Ugh...this numbers stuff is killing me! I look in one Corvette book and it says ALWAYS, another one says SOMETIMES, and then owners have their own stories. I am looking for an original car, I do not like a car that has been altered, but I am getting real gun-shy about paying a premium for a numbers matching car.

If a Corvette book says always, then just enjoy the pictures. If no pictures, sell it on eBay.

Any book that says "always" and "Corvette" in the same sentence doesn't know Corvettes.

It appears you looking for a high $$ car and don't know enough yourself to make a educated buy. You better take someone who knows what there doing. Asking questions here won't cut it, you can't learn or remember everything you'll need to when you look at the car by yourself.

Tonawanda year codes

If it's any help, I have seen a bunch of original big blocks (currently own about 20) (none for sale) and every one of my 1969 and earlier blocks uses only one digit for the year.

I entirely agree. I own many 1968 to 1970 big blocks and all use one digit
for the year designation.
