The new LS7 engine has now entered the GM SERVICE parts system. It's GM #17802397 and it GM lists for about $20,000. That's a complete PRODUCTION engine just as shipped to Bowling Green. I've got more than that invested in the "ZL-1" and I had to put that one together myself!

clem-----
It includes the dry sump components which are part of the core engine. It does not include the external dry sump components (connecting line and external tank). It also does not include ECM or wiring harness. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: 2006 LS7 Engine
Joe...but do a cost per cubic inch...how does that figure compare? Of course, if you take same logic and do a cost per hp...you may not do so well!Tom Russo

Re: 2006 LS7 Engine
Joe,
You can actually buy that engine for about $13,000 from a lot of the performance parts places. I had really intended to put one in my current 65 tube frame project, but a lot of problems came to light that caused me to back off. The LS7 uses a 58X reluctor wheel and a completely different computer and software than any other LS engine. At the current time, there is no availability of ECM's or wiring harnesses, and no one makes software to modify the GM ECM when it does become available. All the accessories are specific to the LS7 and can only be sourced from GM, and they are expensive!
I finally decided to go the LS2 route, and got a complete 0 mile drivetrain from a car thet was damaged in a train derailment for only $7500. I would have had 3 times that in the LS7 before it was complete, and it would still not have the trans! Maybe the aftermarket will have some of these issues resolved in another year of so, and I may consider a LS7 for the next project, but for now, there are just too many unresolved problems with retrofitting it into another car.

Re: 2006 LS7 Engine
Mike,
I am just using the stock LS2 ECM and am having it reprogramed. It took a long time for the aftermarket to respond with software for the LS2, but they finally have. I have a group of young guys down in San Antonio that do a bunch of custom programing for GM for prototypes that build harnesses and custom configure ECM's for me. The one that they did for my LS1 powered 59, was truly plug and play! I was absoultely amazed and pleased that all I had to do was connect the wires and turn the key. I am confident that they will eventually will offer all the items needed to make the LS7 swap, but I will wait until the parts have been out a while and been proven. I figured that I could put a Magnacharger on the LS2 and still only have half the cost of the LS7, and have just about as much WOW factor.
