After having to rebuild the small block in my '65 roadster, I had driven about 500 collective miles and began hearing ( and feeling ) a noise coming from the transmission that could be felt in the shifter when the clutch pedal was depressed. This problem was not evident before the engine rebuild.
Assuming it was a bad throw-out bearing, I pulled the transmission back far enough and replaced the throw out-bearing. I did not pull the bell housing for an "internal" inspection of the clutch plate and fingers - but when the engine was out I did have the flywheel resurfaced and the clutch plate looked fine.
After putting everythink back together I have driven the car less than 50 miles and the same noise is back. There is no noise either when driving or sitting with the vehicle in neutral without the clutch pedal depressed. With the clutch pedal depressed the noise is intermittent - but most often occurs if I depress the cltuch pedal and then rev the engine up quickly up to 2000-3000 rpm. The noise and vibration seems clearly presents as if the bearing is trying to seize - or at least as if there is insufficient bearing lubrication.
I also noted there is little if adjustment distance left in the clutch rod assembly -
At this point it would seem i need to pull the transmission completely and inspect everything from the flywheel back. Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated before I start this process over again. ( although this time it should go much faster now that I'm experienced ! )_
Thanks in advance
