Throw out Bearing didn't solve it

After having to rebuild the small block in my '65 roadster, I had driven about 500 collective miles and began hearing ( and feeling ) a noise coming from the transmission that could be felt in the shifter when the clutch pedal was depressed. This problem was not evident before the engine rebuild.

Assuming it was a bad throw-out bearing, I pulled the transmission back far enough and replaced the throw out-bearing. I did not pull the bell housing for an "internal" inspection of the clutch plate and fingers - but when the engine was out I did have the flywheel resurfaced and the clutch plate looked fine.

After putting everythink back together I have driven the car less than 50 miles and the same noise is back. There is no noise either when driving or sitting with the vehicle in neutral without the clutch pedal depressed. With the clutch pedal depressed the noise is intermittent - but most often occurs if I depress the cltuch pedal and then rev the engine up quickly up to 2000-3000 rpm. The noise and vibration seems clearly presents as if the bearing is trying to seize - or at least as if there is insufficient bearing lubrication.
I also noted there is little if adjustment distance left in the clutch rod assembly -

At this point it would seem i need to pull the transmission completely and inspect everything from the flywheel back. Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated before I start this process over again. ( although this time it should go much faster now that I'm experienced ! )_

    Thanks in advance

These are only thoughts/suggestions. Are you sure the clutch fork is mounted correctly on the ball stud in the bell housing?

have you mounted the TO bearing correctly

in the clutch fork??? the springs on the fork also go inside the TO bearing clutch fork groove not outside the bearing

          Noel,

One other thing to keep in mind is to inspect the clutch fork where the fork makes contact with the throw out bearing (look at the fork from the front where the spining bearing is mounted to the fork). Sometimes from use the fork wears and the spining bearing will contact the sides of the fork, when you push the clutch in the noise begins and it's gone with the clutch out.

After the engine rebuild did you replace the brass bushing in the crankshaft? This is the bushing that presses in to the rear of the shaft and keeps the input shaft stable. Its possible if the bushing is not there the input shaft may be rubbing on the bearing retainer . The lack of this bushing can also cause a vibration you may feal in the shifter
