    327 Intake Manifold

I am having my intake manifold boiled out and have removed the four rivets which hold the baffle to the underside of the manifold. Does anyone know of a source for these rivets?

Also the vendor suggested I have the manifold (cast iron) glass bead blasted. Is there a pro or con to this? I assume the boiling out will remove the paint.

    Thanks

    John -

The heat shield drive rivets are still available from GM under P/N 10229247 ("Pin, Engine Air Heat Shield"), for a bag of ten; the splines are nice and sharp and they retain very nicely. Don't try to re-use the old ones.

If the manifold is actually "hot tanked", I don't really think that having it subsequently bead blasted is going to improve things very much over that treatment. However, these days "hot tanking" is not really done as much as it used to be. For environmental reasons, high temperature "baking" is now used more commonly. Subsequent to this treatment, bead blasting may be necessary. But, the best thing to do is to see how the manifold looks subsequent to whatever cleaning method is used. Then, decide for yourself if further cleaning is necessary.
