    Re: Pro Team

I have bought a car from Pro Team and sold them one and have found them to be up front folks. I had a problem with the 65 fuelie I bought as it had been a trailer queen and not driven but very little and the radiator started leaking as soon as I got it home. Terry split the cost of a new radiator with me and I was satisfied. Paid a good price for the car, but later sold it for a very good price too. Sold them a TF and BG 67 BB last Dec which they still have. They paid a pretty hefty price for a dealer, but they got a "real deal" documented car. They are business people and just like every business out there, "you can't please all of the people all of the time". I personally have not had any problem with them.

      Re: Pro Team

"The only other case is an auction, and then you do have pressure, plus you can't drive it, and you will not get under it. And if you find something you like, simply your interest will generate interest in other bidders, trying to figure out what you find interesting. "

      --------------------

Simple solution Mike. Just watch the Pro-Team bidder and stop just after they do. You may get the car at a 25K discount. : )

But in all seriousness, I agree with your points. The 32 Flavors is a good analogy and I am not trying to bash dealers. I'm also not recommending auctions. I'm just pointing out that if, as most people are saying, the risk is equal for all types of transactions, people ought to at least try to find the least expensive route.

        Re: Pro Team

        Hi Gary:

As others have stated, ProTeam appears to have a mix of good cars and bad ones. They have a large selection, so if you are careful and you know the quality level you are looking for, chances are that they have a car available that matches your technical criteria.

However, the PRICE you will pay for a car from ProTeam is another matter. ProTeam's prices are at the top end of the market range. I think that any given car purchased from ProTeam will cost you about 20% more than it would if you bought it from a private seller.

For buyers who are primarily interested in convenience and don't mind paying a little extra for that convenience, ProTeam might be a good choice. However, if you are budget-minded, you should be aware that you will likely get less Corvette for your dollar at ProTeam than you will from a private seller.

          I bought from them

I bought a 1970 BB AC convertible from them for a good price - it was a driver in decent but used condition. They were very decent to work with, were willing to put the car on a lift for me to check it out, and even threw in the shipping to Missouri for free! They were even willing to help point out flaws in the car!

The fact of the matter is that they buy cars from all over the country and at times they get one from a scam artist! Then again, if you were looking all over the country you'ld probably see a few fakes too!

BUYER BEWARE comes up no matter where you get a car! My TIME is valuable and by saving me from traveling to see only one car (that's usually misrepresented anyway) and showing me thirty or fifty at a time, I expect them to charge me some for that convenience. I'm in business too and it still surprises me how many people think I'm a charity when I too have to pay bills and put food on the table.

Would I consider buying from them again? SURE, if they had a car I wanted.
          Good luck,
          Mark

Re: Pro Team OK with me!

Pro Team bought this 60 Corvette from me in August at Reno and paid me a good price , I could have gotten a little more may be , but then I would have to listen to Corvette experts telling me what junk I was selling because of this little thing or that. Love selling at Auctions! My top pushed them over and again I'm NOT promoting them HERE, sorry it has it on the Corvette to show you what I sold them. And I don't need any more Sh%t about it because I put this pic on, like I've gotten before..I tried selling my 67 on e-bay ( Corvette experts again) so I'll take it to Auction next year.

              Re: Pro Team

-------Bill,,,,Respectfully, what makes you think Pro Team buys 351 blocks to make 435s out of 300s??? If in fact they buy 351 blocks, why wouldnt they be putting big blocks back in cars they have found without thier original BBs??? Pro teams buyers turn up all kinds of Corvettes in all stages of dis-repair. Maybe thats why they have an on-site repair and restoration area!!! Is it so out of the realm of your thought train to imagine that they might be bringing a car back to as close to its original state as possible??? You will notice that I dont say anything about stamping anything on anything. Sure Pro Team has had thier share of stampers. Show me a vintage Corvette dealer who hasnt. They take risks when buying just like us lowly retail customers. They will also buy known stampers for a reasonable discount, as many of us would. I have watched Terry buy and he is very careful about the high line cars. If he was stamping as many cars as you claim he wouldnt have so many NOM disclaimers all over his adds.
------- I second all the above statements about due-diligance. Its the one way to buy a car no matter who you are buying it from, period. Once again, respectfully,,,,,,Bill S

We shouldn't blame Pro Team for our hobby

                  Well said, Bill.
Back in the late 1970's to early 80's, I bet you couldn't find more than a handful of 1957 Corvettes with the original engines, after all, who would want a "puny 283 HP engine with a rope oil seal" when even a stock 350 was 300 HP or better! Now fast forward 25 years and voila, they all have their "original" engines again! Did you ever wonder what happened to all the beige , green, and silver cars too?

Where there is a demand for an item, somebody will step in to fill the demand! I don't blame Pro Team as their shop area is too small to make a huge number of cars (and besides, fraud is still a felony - do you think they would be so DUMB as to do it in their back shop where anybody can go and look?).

I think that they are victims of the same con artists as we are at the auctions and at private sales. They just try to buy a decent car that they can sell. They don't look for fakes to sell at a markup, but I'm sure they get fooled as we all do sometimes.

By the way, their listings CLEARLY state stuff like "N.O.M. 351 block" - that would be a car they think was an original BB car that they bought with some other motor and then put back an original 351 block - HEY! isn't that the same thing a LOT of NCRS types do too!

                    Re: I bought from them

A good friend of mine from Kansas was at a local auction last summer. There was a 67 435. An old forgotten car. I believe it had the O.M.. Anyway, Proteam was on the phone with the auctioneer and dropped out at $45000.00 so his Kansas friend bought it. Several days of work and the engine fired up. I never saw the car. If you go to the Nationals yearly, you can ask Roy with the 57 from Kansas. He has restored over 30 56-57's. On Proteam, I too have been tempted to visit them. Old corvettes around here are getting harder and harder to find. I was the guy who rescued that 60 corvette in the weeds. Never been garaged since 1966. I had pix of it on my little website. After looking for a 65-67 for over a year one gets weary. I found this 65 in Hemmings followed up by looking at it at Carlisle. Maroon/Maroon 65. It needed lots of work. Dealers should be your last resort. Is it wiser to fly/drive out to look at One corvette or look at 100 in one location? It is tempting. Thanks Dick Gutman http://bis.midco.net/gutmans

It is definetly BUYER BEWARE!!!!... He didn't chnage the name of his business to avoid the IRS. I've spent a lot of time looking at LT1's for 30 years. I went ther to look for a friend one day. I have never seen that many 70-71 LT1's under one roof at one time, even at Carlisle. Not many 72's just 70-71, made me WONDER. But I already knew the real story.

I figger: If Terry is buying more cars from NCRS members (directly and via auction) than any other used car dealer, and as a result is nothing but a the purveyor of questionable articles, then NCRS must be the root the problem.
