I believe these water pumps were used on all small block SHP engines with a tapped boss on the top of the pump for the bypass hose fitting. Did all of the 326 pumps have a tapped 5/8" opening for the 87 degree elbow or were some larger than 5/8" and require a threaded adapter? Thanks in advance, PT

Re: '63-'67 SHP Water Pump #3859326
Hi Pat,
Actuality the correct termalogy should be for orginal pumps is 1/2 NPT(national pipe thread). This was used on the 3782609 pumps on the 1962 cars, the 3839175 pumps on the 1963, and the 3859326 pumps on the late 64-67 cars. The larger 3/4 NPT is the later replacement pumps that require a bushing.
Hope this makes sense

Page, the water pump I need must have a 5/8" inlet hole in the top boss, without the use of a threaded bushing. You pointed out 1/2 NPT, don't you mean 5/8 NPT? Thanks, PT- Top

It's 1/2" NPT. However, keep in mind that in pipe thread size, 1/2" does NOT mean a 1/2" OD of the fitting. 1/2" NPT measures about 5/8" in OD.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
