    AFB date codes

Do AFB date codes translate to Month-Week-Year?
For example, a date code of BB3, would that translate to Feb-2nd week-1963?

I believe that the coding only denotes month and year (i.e. "B3" = February, 1963, 1973, etc.). The other "B" represents a "version" code (i.e. "A" = first mod, "B"= second mod, etc.).

      OK, thanks.
I have a 3461S, and that is the date code on it.
Thus, this should translate to a 63 340hp/327 for Feb 1963, right?

Yes. However, the 3461S was also used for 300 hp Corvette engines and 300 hp passenger car engines for 1963. So, the carb could have originally resided on any of those applications. Nevertheless, it's correct for a 1963 340 hp built before February, 1963.

I believe Joe meant to say AFTER February '63. And it is more than likely several months after February, as well.

Ya, I figured that. Comes with age they tell me. They tell me that memory is the first of three things in life that go away. I forget what the other 2 are.

              Tom,
That number is also right for a 300hp '63 passenger car.

                Pete,
Since the carbs were installed at the assembly plants, rather than at the engine plant, I'd expect them to predate the assembly of the car by not much more than 30 days.
