Fixin' to put the motor back in my 67 435 Coupe after it's been out a while and want to be right on the bellhousing finish. I've heard varying opinions from solid orange to just wide overspray from back of block. I was actually thinking these were pretty well painted solid orange, with the earlier midyears being bare, but my memory's failin' faster than other parts.

Re: 67 BB Bellhousing detail
Bellhousing should have evidence of engine paint all the way around the unit approximately 6-8 inches from the engine side. They were sprayed bolted to the engine assembly at Tonawanda. The spray guys wanted to cover just enough so that when the engine was intstalled in St Louis - when viewing the engine from the the top - the bellhousing would be the same color as the block. They were not masked so the portion not painted trailed off from overspray to bare. Corvette news for 66 has pictures of the paint line and finshed engines stacked for shippment showing the results as described. Remember these were union guys painting with a big spray gun so it was not an exact affair.- Top
