Does anyone know what the number 3 behind the instrument cluster signifies? Thanks for your help. Hector

Re: 1966 Instrument cluster chalk number
I kinda think you just got a different take on the numbers.
FWIW, I have a four digit chalked number on my 65 SB on the same brace. I posted it here a few years ago; if you are interested I'll post the picture again.65 MM Convertible, L76 (365 hp)- Top

Re: 1966 Instrument cluster chalk number
Hector, I have a 66 427/425 coupe. It is a low option radio delete car. I have the dash out of it right now. The mark on mine appears to be 84 then after that a strange T D. I would be interested to know what that means too. GOod luck with yours. Let me know if you find anything out. Mike Hanson may know something about these #s. He post on here all the time. He decifered the sticker on the back of the instrument cluster for a few folks several weeks back. Do you still have the sticker on the back of the cluster?

Re: 1966 Instrument cluster chalk number
Bill, sounds like you have a nice car. I still have the sticker on the back of my instrument cluster. I've communicated with Mike in the past. There is an in depth discussion on this issue, on this board, with Mike, back on January of 2005. The discussion involved, in part, the cluster #s on 66 427/390s. Quite interesting. Here's a photo of the sticker on the back of my instrument cluster. What are the numbers on your sticker and do you have a photo you could post? Hector

Re: 1966 Instrument cluster chalk number
photo sent, you will see that it shows a "8 2 2 3" scrawled on the same brace, or perhaps '82 23'. John had opined that this number was a broadcast code of sorts, and to be sure it is no 1 - 500 job number, nor does it match the job number I see elsewhere on my car, so the broadcast code numbers makes pretty good sense to me, but others have had different thoughts . . . .65 MM Convertible, L76 (365 hp)- Top

Michael Hanson - Z-Bar # - shipper #?
aha! I finaly found the topic I was thinking of, where Michael Hanson had some different thoughts on the chalk number on my dash brace, and he might be interested in what you show. His thought was that it might be a shipper number, which he felt made sense given my car is an AO Smith built body. Yours?

Re: Michael Hanson - Z-Bar # - shipper #?
Mine is an AO Smith as well. I sent you an e-mail earlier. Notice the similarities between the last digit, 3, in your car and the 3 in mine? Interesting.
Where would you find the shipper number? I remember reading here on the discussion board or in Adams' book, that the chalk number was an assembly line number and had nothing to do with any other numbers. It was simply a number placed on the car while being assembled and had no correlation to any other number. However, Bill Farmer's chalk number doesn't appear to fit this theory.

Re: 1966 Instrument cluster chalk number
Hector and everyone else, here is the chalk marks on the cross member. There are 2 photos. They did not come out too well. I will take more tomorrow in better light. My instrument cluster is still attached. I tried to take pictures but it did not work very well. My wife will have to help me. I will let you know when I get them. Bill
