National 2006 San Antonio

I know that it is a bit early to begin planning for the National meet in San Antonio next August, but here goes. I would like to take my fresh frame off '56 to S.A. next August but can't get away long enough to trailer it down from Chicago myself. I have checked with a couple of individuals that could do it for me and it would cost a small fortune by the time I pay for their daily fee, hotel, meals, fuel and the three days down time they would be cooling their heels on my dime. I know that groups have contracted with larger covered trailer transporters in years past and would like to discuss with someone how and who they have used in the past. Any suggestions would be appreciated because I would love to be there for the 50th Anniversary of my car. Thanks.

Garry, hope you can get your freshly '56 to San Antonio for the Convention next summer. We would love to have your '56 participate in the "Year of the 56" display.

Would call the big transport co.s who do transporting to the convention every year. If you have a big name restorer near where you live, I would check with them. Otherwise would repost with a Subject line such as "Which Transport Co. to Use" or something like that which will draw attention to what you're after.

Reliable, Interstate, Passport, Horseless Carriage all have good reputations. I would give each the parameters that you require and get a quote.

Gary and Dick,
Thanks for your responses. I have used Intercity before and was very pleased. Are there certain ones that seem to be used every year? It seems to me that if there were several cars headed for SA that we could negotiate somehow for the downtime they would have while they are there. Does the same trailer stay for the entire show and then turn around and take the cars back or does another one swing through at the end and do the second half of the journey? I will repost under a different subject and see what results I get as well. Thanks.

as i recall, at the sun valley nationals, a bunch of east coast members had about 6 or 8 vettes shipped out to sun valley and it cut the roundtrip cost to about 1k on the average.the driver and the rig stayed at the convention before returning the cars to their owners.mike

it was the outfit that works out of Carlisle, Pa.the owner was , i believe, in some sort of partnership with Chip Miller before Chip died. maybe someone who has used them will chip in. mike
