Re: C3-72 Need Correct Master Cylinder
HELLO, I'm recorrecting the message that I had posted. I have a 72 vette coupe,it is a late build June 28th, S/N 1Z37K2S525020,it has Power Brakes. The NCRS Judge manual reads that the master cylinder should read: delco logo 5480346. I ordered a master cylinder from Chicago Corvette Supply and when I recieved it, it had the delco logo but no.3s read 5460346. I returned it back and they said they search more info on it. I'm suppose to call them back to let them know if I want it back. I want the correct no.#, where can i get a master cylinder with correct markings info ? Anyone that can help me solve this situation .please contact me, email me ccdm2p@msn.com or even call 480-720-0684 my cell.72 cpstingray- Top

Re: C3-72 Need Correct Master Cylinder
HELLO MIKE. I don't have the master cylinder with ,it is currently back with the CHICAGO CORVETTE SUPPLY . When I spoke with one of there rep. he mentioned that when they made part, part of the no.# did not get casted properly, yet there are master cylinders out there that have the no.# done correctly were you can tell it reads 5480346. Since my vette does not have the correct one , I would like to get one that is, looks/reads if possible . any info on where to get one please contact me .thank you from CP in ARIZONA72 cpstingray- Top

Re: C3-72 Need Correct Master Cylinder
I'd worry far more about the casting number, and as others have suggested the first one might have actually been correct. These numbers can be VERY difficult to interpret correctly.
If the machined surface on the front of the MC does not have the correct code, it's only 1 point or so in judging. My MC is original to my 72, and you just can't read the code anymore. But I'm not changing it just for the code.

Re: C3-72 Need Correct Master Cylinder
Yes, I suppose, but on my 72 it's just plain unreadable. I think the original factory stamp was very light, and after 30+ years, forget it. Same with the date.

Re: C3-72 Need Correct Master Cylinder
OK, I realize he's not buying my MC anyway, but take a look here.
I can't find it in person any easier than I can with my pictures, by the way.

I know they used that same casting with the bleeders but the spot on the front was not machined. This could cause a larger deduction. If you ask on this site we all try to help the person get the most for the money.

Re: C3-72 Need Correct Master Cylinder
What do you mean by "the spot on the front was not machined"?
It's machined on my car, and if I look REALLY close I can even find the date code on the side port, so I don't doubt it's the original.
I agree - we try for the most bang for the buck, but on the old "points per dollar" scale, I'd worry first about casting number before getting into the date and code stamping.

Re: C3-72 Need Correct Master Cylinder
Noted.
The code was then stamped on the machined surface, correct?

The original poster needs a M/C just like yours with the machined spot on the front with the code. I would not try to get the date right. After 72 they quit machining the spot on the front so their are more of thease for sale. The ones for a 72 go for more money usally and I have no idea what Charles got from the vendor.Lyle
