    C2 (1966) Tires and Wheels

I would greatly appreciate any advice or comments regarding the following questions concerning tire size and aluminum wheel restsoration for a C2, 1966, 427 convertible.

    1. What is the correct tire size?

    2. I have been told 5/8" whitewalls or Gold Stripe bias ply tires were the only tires available as original equipment. I would like to use Radial blackwalls mounted on the Aluminum knock off wheels. Please advise or comment on brand, size, and style best suited for this vehicle.

    3. Any suggestions on where to have Aluminum Knock Off Wheels restored or freshened up?

    Thank you for your comments!

    Regards,

    Bob

    Bob,

I've found that the Michelin brand "Harmony" 205/75-15 blackwall radial tires are excellent. These are the correct size replacement tire for your Corvette. They are 26.9 inches in height and show 773 revolutions per mile. I have these on my '64 Corvette convertible with original knock-off wheels and they are a very smooth riding, quiet tire.

Other blackwall radials tire choices are the Uniroyal brand Tiger Paw AWP and the General brand Ameri G4S. I had the General brand tires on my car for judging purposes last year and two of the tires would not balance properly which resulted in a bad vibration at highway speeds. You can view the Michelin Harmony tire at the Tirerack website at www.tirerack.com.

      Bob,

-------White-wall and gold-line were the only "optional" tires available in 1966. Blackwalls of the same size were the standard tire. No radial tire was available of course, but a good choice today. I hope this helps..........Bill S

Thanks for the valuable information. I did not know that Blackwall Tires were standard equipment on the 1966.
