While I have the torque arms off...

Are the spindle supports and half shaft U-joints on mid-years painted or unpainted? If they are painted, what shade of black is correct? Any input would be appreciated.

    Patrick-----

The spindle supports on mid-years were painted a semi-gloss to medium gloss black. Painting was done prior to machining, so machined areas are unpainted and rust. Actually, though, I don't believe that all of these were painted. But, conventional wisdom holds that, typically, mid years were painted. The spindle supports on my 69 were NOT originally painted.

As far as the half shaft u-joints go, they were NOT painted. Also, the half shafts themselves and the spindle end flange were not painted. The half shafts were natural extruded tube with natural forged u-joint flanges. Heat-induced bluing is usually seen at the flange-to-tube welds. The natural, extruded tube finish is among the most difficult of all finishes to restore to its original appearance.
