I am replacing the #4 body mount reinforcements (on the body) which are secured in place with rivets. Is a special tool required for flaring the ends, or can I use something from the toolbox?
Steve, you can back up the flat head of the rivet with a heavy hammer. then take a punch with a flat end that is larger than the shaft on the rivet, place it on the end of the rivet while a helper holds the hammer against the head and gently tap the punch with another hammer. The rivets are soft and it does not take a lot of force to peen it into a mushroom shape. Of course if you have a compressor and an air hammer, instead of a punch, that works better and faster.
