    C3-1970 carb id

Hi, this is my first time using this forum and the question I have is on a 7029207 Rochester carb and a date code of 2836, can some one tell me if it is a 1966 or 1976 carb if I am reading the date code corectly and the idle vent is cast "off"

    1969 carb, service date

    7029207

    3rd digit 2 = 1960's, 4 = 1970's
    4th digit = year 1969, 1979 (ends in 9)
    final 3 digits = 207 was for 350 HP 4 speed in 1969

date code is a service date, the 283rd day of 1976

7029207 is a 1969 corvette carb 350 HP manual trans so since the orignal carb was a 1969 it could not be built in 1966

        James----

What you have is a SERVICE carburetor manufactured in either 1976, 1986, or, possibly, even 1996. It was not manufactured in 1966 since the 7029207 model carburetor had not been "invented yet" at that time.

In addition to its original PRODUCTION use for 1969 Corvettes with L-46, the 7029207 carburetor was manufactured for many years as a SERVICE carburetor for most 1968-69 Q-Jet applications, Corvette and otherwise. So, there are a lot of these carburetors out there. It's not a correct SERVICE carb for a 1970, but the correct SERVICE carbs for 1970 were discontinued MANY years ago. So, the available 7029207 was, apparently, "pressed into service" for your car.

It's also VERY possible that this is a carburetor that has been through a commercial rebuilder's operation and has been converted to the 1970 configuration. As I say, the '207' is a very common carburetor (and, consequently, a very common CORE), so it may have been used to "build up" a serviceable 1970 carburetor for your application. Rebuilders don't bother to change the original numbers stamped on carburetor cores (although, of late, some rebuilders will obliterate or cover the numbers to avoid the confusion which such numbers can create).

Either way, a '207' carburetor should function alright for a 1970 application.

Thank you for your reply as now it make sense, I did not think it was a 1966 carb but wanted to be sure, thanks again, Jim
