Ever seen the '54 GHIA Corvette

The orginal Portugal delivered '54 Corvette #1428 was in 1957 refitted by Ghia Aigle with a beatifull aluminium body.

The original 3 carburators of the 6 cylinder engine were strangly also replaced for english SU equivalents.

That's not only the ugliest Ghia body I've ever

seen, it's the ugliest Corvette I've ever seen. Maybe this is where the aluminum body Corvette came from.

The aluminum-bodied Corvettes (three of them) were bodied by Scaglietti (Ferrari's body builder, which later became part of Ferrari), and were a WHOLE lot prettier than that Ghia thing; Ghia always did weird (to my taste, anyway) designs with oddly-disconnected surfacing and excessive ornamentation. Enzo Ferrari wouldn't let Ghia build any Ferrari series-production bodies, but a few customers had their Ferraris re-bodied by Ghia (and they were ugly).
