    Emergency Brake Cables

    Hi!

I would like to replace the ends of the emergency brake cables where they enter the backing plate and frame. Is there a source for these ends? I am using a replacement frame and they did not drill the frame for the emergency brake cables. The old frame was rusted in this area and I do not feel comfortable using it as a pattern for the new holes. Could someone please provide dimensions and pictures of this area?

    Thanks for any help!

Ray--they used e-brake cables from 53 up--what year are we talking about?

Sorry Mike; I thought I had posted for a 1963 SWC

I've never heard of anyone that did this, although it may be possible to do it. My own personal opinion is that I wouldn't attempt to replace the parking brake cable ends for any reason. These ends are absolutely critical to the functioning of the cable (and, consequently, the functioning of the parking/emergency brake). So, there's a MAJOR safety issue here. I would not want to use any brake cable to which had been performed what amounts to a field repair. For me, only a QUALITY, FACTORY-ASSEMBLED cable will do.

I really can't make out exactly what you need. However, In-Line Tube manufacturers replacement emergency brake cables. They look very authentic. These are the sheathed cables that run from the frame crossover brackets (on a 68 C3) to the trailing arms. Of course, they and others, sell the cables that run from the brake handle also. They are amenable to doing custom work. (I bought the stainless steel version of the sheathed brake cable and had two custom SS rear brake lines made.)

Didn't Gary Beaupre do an article, including photos, in The Restorer on this? Got the CRS sickness.
