    Change parking brake on 1972

I have order new parking brake and cable parts. The manuals make replacing them sound easy. Yet when I look at the brake it sure looks like it will be difficult to get those springs and things attached. Do I need to take off the hub or is there a secret to putting them in?
    thanks

You will have to remove the rotors. It can be done with the axles in place but is somewhat difficult.. Have patience and you will get it done

        Hi Cal,

I just changed my parking brakes and it is a pain putting the springs back on the small pins but you don't have to remove the hubs. What I found made it easier was to use a small piece of steel tubing that was large enough to fit over the pin (the pin went inside the tubing) yet small enough on the outside to fit through the hole in the hub. I then positioned the spring and retainer on the pin, put the tubing through the hub and then, while holding the back of the pin, pushed and turned the steel tubing which seated the retainer on the pin. It took a couple of tries but eventually the retainer went on and locked in place.

        Hope this helps.

        Matt

That helps, I hope it only takes a couple of tries. Seems like they forgot the brakes would have to changed some day.

          It still looks complicated.

One of those "Better Ideas from ...", oh wait, that was the other guys.

20/20 hindsight shows there are many flaws. But then, they only planned on you driving one for two years, as trading cars every year or two was typical. No one anticipate 30 or 40 years.

I'm surprised they didn't seal up or make non-adjustable a lot more things.
