C2 Differential Date

Like many of us with C2's the differential is probably not the original. I think I have found a good replacement but wanted to do a date check.

I have a car build date of 4-20-63. I found a rear dated 4-10-63 (CB 4 10 63). Is the rear too close to the build date?

Geez, don't you hate getting old and having questions about your rear end, Harry?

Anyway, I'm not sure but I think there are two dates on the differential case. As I recall, there is a casting date on the side, and there is an ASSEMBLY date on the bottom next to the ratio code. It appears that you are looking at this bottom date. And it's ten days prior to your car's assembly date. Mmmmm, yeah, I'd say that works out about right! No? NICE FIND!

Hey Pete, good to hear from ya. Yup, every 5 years the jack up my rear!!!!

Yes the Car assembly date is 4-20-63 and the rear assembly date is 4-10-63. The reason I ask if it's too close is to consider the build, packaging, shipping, unpacking and then stacking the rear for assembly. I'm not familiar with that time sequence.

My '67 big block had about that date spread on its' original differential.

On my '67...

My '67 was built 6-9-67 and the differential is dated 5-12-67.

My '63 was built April 18,1963 and the original rear end is dated April 8,1963.

Harry if you recall, a little while back I asked the same type question. My '63 coupe body was built the 2nd week of Sept '62 with a birthday of 9/26/62 and a rear end assbly of 9/22/62 and thx for your help on that one. Hope this helps. Frank #9561

Well, the differential showed up today via UPS. Nice Case. The casting date is December 24, 1962 and the build date is April 10, 1963. (CB 4-10-63). A Merry Christmas to me, HO HO HO.....

I've been looking for this rear for 8 years.
