Re: 1966 A.I.R. pump date code

A.I.R. pumps, I have found a pump that has 2 elbows on the bottom of the pump instead of a tee. They are close together and face away from each other, doing the same thing as a tee. the larger hose that goes to the air cleaner comes of the back plate. I would like to know what vechile this is from. I asked the for pictures of the AIR pumps, so maybe I could figure what I have. Any help woud be appreciated. Dale

The 2 elbows on the bottom is a configuration I have not seen. However, it's very possible that it's another variation of the Corvette pump. As far as GM vehicles go, I don't know of any other that had the outlets off of the pump body besides Corvette. It's possible that there may have been some obscure truck application and it's also possible that there was some non-Chevrolet GM application that I'm not aware of that used this configuration pump, though.

It's also possible that it's for a non GM application. Saginaw was one of the major suppliers of these pumps in the early days of air injection systems. So, it might be that there was some other such application that used the Corvette configuration pump. None that I'm aware of, but I'm certainly not familiar with every possible application of these pumps.

During these early days of emissions control, the AIR system represented an easily added, albeit expensive, means of exhaust emissions control. It survived, though, as an emissions contol mechanism and is still in widespread use today----40 years later.

Thank you again Joe lucia. the gentleman who owns this pump says it is from a 1967 BB. The lower elbow's point the right direction's and the one inch hose out the back lines up with the original hose from my K-19 air cleaner base. I have emailed Larry Linkous asking for pictures that he has of different 1966 and 1967 smog pumps. I think Corvettes have more variations than Lionel Trains. Thanks again Joe, Dale
