    Wells Cargo Low-Profile

Thanks Gary! Spoke with Wells Cargo today. Apparently the low-profile Autowagon is a custom deal. They will reduce trailor height, at no additional cost, in 6 inch increments. They tell me if I go 5.5 interior height the total trailer height will be 7'4", still too tall for a conventional garage. A down side of the low-profile is the shorter the trailer height the shorter the rear ramp becomes and hence more issues with loading ground clearance. It seems the big buck Trailex is the only trailer designed with the minimalist in mind.

Thanks again for sharing your expertise and experiences!

      Re: Wells Cargo Low-Profile

I had a friend who had a custom made low enclosed trailer for his Sports Renault. It was probably 5 ft high outside and let him see over it when towing. It was very little drag on the highway.

However, it was a drag getting to stuff stored in the front. While some thing sound nice for towing, you do have to live with it. Think about being bent over while inside stowing parts or supplies or using it for shelter during a rainstorm.

The short door problem is very easy to overcome. The "Nascar" low profile Featherlite's I spoke about in my previous post have a ramp door with a 5 foot folding ramp attached to the ramp door. This was needed as the Cup cars were VERY low. Fold down the ramp door and fold out the ramp extension, VERY EASY!

The "short" ramp door is not a problem.

Does anyone have an opinion on an open trailer with the roll back feature.
It seems like a great idea to elimiate the ramps and have easier loading.
          Who makes them ?

            Re: Wells Cargo Low-Profile

Most of the people I know with roll backs really like them. However, a few years ago, there were some complaints that they didn't tow well because the frame wasn't stiff enough or something along that order. However, anyone that I know that has a newer one has not made that complaint.

If you like a 2 piece trailer, they are fine.

                  Re: Roll back trailers

I had a Featherlite flatbed trailer and the ramps were a major pain in the rear. I purchased a Jim-Glo tilt trailer and have been very happy with it. Check www.jim-glo.com Also, I have had two enclosed trailers built by Hamlet Trailers. Check out www.hamlettrailers.com Very easy to work with and they will customize to your heart's content. Both trailers had driver's side doors that I could open the door on my C5 and get out.

The Hamlet trailers are steel, but they actually weigh less than the Featherlite aluminum trailer.

Most important thing to me is what is fender well height inside trailer? I want to be sure to be able to open the driver side door and get out of the car when it si in the trailer.
