Opinions requested - C2 new clutch action

I have recently completed the installation of a LuK Rep Set clutch kit in my 67 small block C2 Vette. You may have seen some of my other posts discussing clutch linkage ball studs, clutch feel, etc. Now that it is all back together and running I have had a chance to drive the car some distance (100 miles or so), and I would like opinions from the forum.

The clutch pressure plate and friction disk that I replaced were GM parts from the mid 80's. Not sure who would have been making those parts for GM at that time. So far I can't say that I am happy with the clutch engagement feel, and I would like to know if you would consider what I have now as normal or abnormal.

Now, engagement occurs over a much smaller motion of the pedal than before. This means that I really have to very carefully let out the clutch and precisely hold it in the slight engagement position when starting from a dead stop in 1st gear. It is more of a balancing act between clutch and throttle to start smoothly than before. I get some chatter if I am not real careful. I had the flywheel turned, so maybe this is normal while the metal surfaces and friction disk take a set and get worn in?? It has been years since I last changed a clutch, so maybe I have just forgotten? Should I expect this condition to get better?

On a more positive note, the new clutch is apparently better balanced than the old set, as interior vibration is notable better. I previously thought was normal Vette vibration at speed is now gone! My only complaint is the tricky 1st gear engagement, and maybe a slightly stronger clutch spring. Comments?

    Tim----

I think that you will get some "wear-in" of the clutch friction surfaces that will, over time, ameliorate some of the conditions that you describe.
