    C2 Knock Off Wheel Adaptors

What is the differance between a "original" and "reproduction" knock off wheel adaptor? What color should they be? (I have three with a "goldist" color hue to them and one that looks silver.) What's correct and original? Thanks.

    Ken,

I would say that most, if not all, of the original equipment KO adapters were a dull cad or zinc. Most of the NOS adapters that I've had over the years were also this dull silver but I have had a few still in the GM box that were the gold color that you describe. However, I believe these gold colored adapters were later issue service only. I don't know what color the reproductions are but I think I've also seen these in both silver and gold.

Some of the reproduction adapters were of pretty good quality and looked fairly accurate but the giveaway was the five locating studs. Originals had more of a tapered lead in or chamfer at the end than the reproduction had.

At one time Roby Price clained to have some information that the god and silver designated right and left. That corresponded with the originals on my car so I had them redone in that manner, but I have never really investigated any deeper than that...
