Revisiting the muffler issue

I`m going to be looking for a new exhaust system for my 66, 300 HP, automatic. The original one is about shot. I dont plan on spending $1000.00 plus for a couple of muffs. The last post on mufflers indicated that the stock units are better than the reproductions, OK fine. Is there a next best repo. out there, and if so, what parts house carries it? What about the off road muffler I see in the catalogs? Has anyone any advice? Thanks, Bill

Bill I bought Walker replacement mufflers for my 68 327/350 many years ago. The mufflers have held up very well and are guaranteed for the life of the car. I don't know how close they sound to the originals because at the time of replacement, my mufflers were without a lot of internal baffling and had not represented the original sound for several years. I don't know if these Walker mufflers are available today or not.

Bill,Allens Exhaust are very helpful. Click on their web site or call them, they'll answer any questions you have. I called them a couple of times and even went to their shop. I will buy the off road system from them this winter.
