    65' Leaf Spring LINERS

I have read some information that seems to me to be wrong.

The leaf spring LINERS in a 65' Coupe, 9 leaf standard suspension should be vinyl.
I recently read there was a "rubber" liner. ???
    Is this correct??
Also, was there a letter/number code on the liners of any kind that you can see?? If so, where do you get them??

As always, Thank You for your time.

I think that all of the terms that you describe are "generic" terms for the same thing. The liners were manufactured of graphite impregnated, high density polyetheylene or polypropylene plastic.

I expect that the reason that the terms "rubber" and "plastic" are used is simply to indicate that these liners were of that TYPE of material rather than fabric or metal liners widely used in days-of-old.

There are no letters or codes on original liners that I'm aware of. Reproduction liners can be purchased from sources like Dr. Rebuild, Quanta, and Bairs. They have fairly recently been discontiniued by GM.

Leaf Spring LINERS; GM vs. repro

      Lane,

I have seen the GM part number ink or paint stamped in yellow on some GM service replacement liners. I've also seen a older GM NOS liner with a GM label w/ part number. Finally, my notes that say the GM liners are 50 thousands thick, whereas the Bairs repro liner in 35 thousands. Finally, I also know that some of the repro liners have a slight different "shade" of black and a slightly different stiffness by feel anyway. Since the GM liners are now discontinued there is no alternative to repros. Once the liners are installed I don't think any judge will detect any differences so long as the repro liners in question have the standard H profile.

Re: Leaf Spring LINERS; GM vs. repro

        Gary------

The spring liners that GM sold in SERVICE under the original part number were not the same as the original liners. At least, they were not the same for about the last 15 years. Before that, they were the same as original. The difference is the thickness and the "texture" of the plastic. The later ones were thinner and "shinier" than the original material. So, I believe that the lines sold by Bairs, Quanta, and others, while not the same as original GM liners, are pretty much the same as what GM sold for the last 15 years, or so.

The original liners had no numbers or markings on them that I'm aware of. The replacements did have the parts labels or yellow printing.
