    PG to 4sp conversions....

Any telltale signs of a 67 powerglide car converted to 4sp? Lets assume the 4sp is has correct casting nos and a vin stamp (restamp). What is there about the accelerator linkage that is unique between the two?

    Thanks

In the C3 world, auto trans cars have a removable crossmember while four speed cars have a welded one. If that is the case for C2s, then you can look for that or a recently welded crossmember.

This is a real straight forward conversion-everything is bolt-in. If you remove all the teltale signs of the automatic the only give-away I can think of is the hole in the chassis near the right lower control arm that the screw for the clip that holds the cooler lines goes into will be threaded because of the self tapping screw that went in there. Also you have to route the back up light wiring through the firewall to the engine side instead of teh inteior side. The accelerator linkage is the same-just remove the kick down stuff.

It may still have the two rubber well-nuts in the front side of the lower radiator support box-section where the trans cooler mounting brackets attached, and the harness extension for the neutral safety switch may still be in place under the driver's side carpet between the sill and the shifter area.

John, were they rubber? Seems mine were steel.

              Gary-----

The bolted-in crossmembers were a feature which began with the THM-400 usage in 1968. All C2's, manual trans or Powerglide, used a welded-in crossmember (just like C3 manual trans cars PRIOR to 1979).

Probably were steel Riv-Nuts, not rubber well-nuts; have never worked on a PG midyear; if they were steel, that increases the odds that they're still there, as they're nearly impossible to remove without damaging the surrounding metal.
