    distributor cover source

Who has the most authentic tab and rivets for the C-2 SB Distributor cover? Long Island Corvette has a listing for both. I looked for a posting on the removal and installation of the rivets and did not find one. Is this a job I should tackle or send out? Can anyone guide me in the right direction? Thanks in advance Dale

    Dale,
Isn't it just a matter of carefully drilling the old rivet out and replacing the tab and rviet with new parts and then peening over the rivet with a ball peen hammer? Obviously protect the cover by placing it on a soft surface like a bath towel to prevent from scratching the surface. I would think you can do this without sending it out and it would be quicker. Just my 2 cents,
    Kurt # 26406

Kurt, I have not taken the cover off yet, but it looks as if the rivets are stainless steel. lf they are, they are very hard. Very hard to drill and peen over or they probably have to be pressed. I remember stainless steel rivets in the USAF on aircraft in the 50's. Maybe someone who has done this will help out. Dale

Dale, Are you talking about the front clip that grounds to the air cleaner and tach cable. If so I had to do this as mine was broke, its easy to do. Mike

Dale, you'll need a few things to do this. A rivet gun or air chissel. A rivet set and something that you can buck the rivet with. Just use a couple layers of masking tape so you don't scratch the cover. That will help hold the rivets in also. I didn't use the rivets LIC sent with the kit as they were a little to short hard to buck with the washer on the back, but they will work. If you need any more info just ask. Mike

Dale, If you know anyone in the aorcraft industry they could get them. Otherwise I have some if you need just email me your address and I'll send a few. Also when you are trying to buck the back with the washer on it. It helps to have a small piece of thin rubber inbetween the tool your bucking with next to the washer. Holds the washer down till its peened. Mike
