I think the phrase is "Are we going to just cut bait or fish?". Meaning are we going to just talk about it or do something.

I'm not aware of anyone who has never gotten their merchandise from Goat Hill, but everyone just has to wait months to get it. That was my case. Finally got the part, but had to wait and wait. Not supporting them, but has anyone actually never received their items from them? (up until now)

Patrick...advertising a Ford in a Corvette magazine is not the same as being a crook.

those of you wanting to "police" Driveline ads., and who have a law degree, should volunteer to scan the multiple driveline submitted ads, on the house. mike

I would second the suggestion to contact the Police in the area he is located. I have had to use that technique occasionally in the past and have found a local police officer can be a powerful incentive to get paid for items shipped or a refund sent.

              Ebay model...????

Calling all lawyers. What if....we (ncrs members) agreed to post pos and neg feedback for vendors on a NCRS hosted webpage. Maybe the NCRS could host such a site and provide a valuable service to its membership. Naturally, the issue of feedback validity would be problematic. Authorship would require an NCRS id and at a minimum would at least provide authorship info. Maybe this vendor feedback forum would go a long way to cleaning house in the vendor community. Hummmmmmm....Any NCRS leadership out there???????????

                Re: GoatHill Classics/Paul Baker

I don't think it takes a law degree, rocket science, or mega effort to suspend the advertising priviledges of a vendor who has multiple unresolved complaints. As a co-Administrator for a website with over 15 thousand registered members and Paid Advertisers (required of any commercial entity running for sale ads) we pull any vendor with an unresolved or complaint. (it only takes 1) It would be an even easier situation to control on printed ads and actually takes virtually no time.

                  Re: GoatHill Classics/Paul Baker

Larry, I have to agree with Rob. According to the Mar-Apr Driveline, page 10:

"The NCRS Driveline, published in the United States, is the bi-monthly newsletter sent to all members of the National Corvette Restorers Society (NCRS, Inc.). Formed in 1974, the NCRS is a non-profit [IRS 501(c)(7)] hobby group ..."

There is a typo in "enjoymyent" but that doesn't change that NCRS is a hobby group, or you could say club. As such, a club has a responsibility to its members that a commercial publishing firm such as a newspaper or a car magazine would not have. Their purpose is to make money, NCRS' purpose is to benefit its members.

While officially, NCRS does not endorse any advertisers, it is implied that they are safe because they allowed them into our play area for a long time. If The NCRS Driveline magazine continues to advertise for companies that are doing wrong to the members AFTER The NCRS Driveline staff and the NCRS board has been notified, then you could conclude that NCRS does actually endorse that company.

Write to The NCRS Driveline magazine and complain. Also write to the NCRS officers and complain.

If you don't get results, then demand your subscription to The NCRS Driveline magazine cease and request a refund of your dues for the portion that covers the subscription.

A portion does cover the subscription, as they have pointed out in the taxing of Florida residents. The Corvette Restorer magazine is $16 of your dues, per page 10. Ask what The NCRS Driveline magazine portion is. Simply refuse to "subscribe" anymore to The NCRS Driveline magazine.

i would take out a ad in driveline

pointing out these problem and insist that your ad be placed next to GHC ad. with the money you people spend to restore these cars i would think that every issue of the publication someone else who has be "TAKEN" could afford pay for the ad. if i got "TAKEN" i would do this. it is you duty to your fellow corvette owners.

                      Re: GoatHill Classics/Paul Baker

We are asking our club to do more then it should have to,Its funney but in this world it always seams to be somebody else fault and we always have to blame some one other then our selfs,Regaurdless of where companies advertize, how long they have been advertizing,We must make our on decitions on where to spend our money.

Actually I would suggest the first page of all of our newsletters states

The NCRS is an orginization that does not endource parts or suppliers. We do allow people to advertize in our pubications for a fee, which allow our club to generate needed moneys we use to keep our club stable and assure we will be around for a long time. Just because there advertized in our publications it does not mean they are a Quaility company you should do buisness with. This dicistion you must make on your own.

The day we have to rely on the club to figure out who is good and who isnt is the day the NCRS will be open to lawsuits,

                      an imaginary advertize ment

For sale 1967 tri power all original $ 200,000.00

Now some one buys it because there assuming that because the seller is an NCRS member, advertizing in a NCRS publication that the seller is honarable and the car is real other wise he could not advertize it there.

Now the buyer soon finds out its a fake after he bought it ,Does that now mean we as a club are liable for his loss of monies on his purchase. All though it seams pretty reasonable to just say dont let a person advertize there are a ton of liabilities we are opening the club up to.

I have to stress i have been taken advantage of and I hate when it happens .But I always look to myself for making the mistake of chosing a bad supplier.

Last thing if I was not asked to be a mediator on problems in my industy I may have looked as this differently.

But when things go wrong people always look to invoulve every one the can in a lawsuit (the term is shot gun lawsuit) and they look to spread the liability to every one they can this way they have a better chance of recovering a little bit from every one who got hit with the shot gun blast suit.

Why should the club assume this liability

I agree with you 100%, this guy should not be allowed to advertise in the driveline after what he has done to MANY DUE'S PAYING MEMBER'S.I would say to everyone get together and Boycott this guy and maybe the situation will take care of itself. Obviously this guy is a low rate scum bag. Tom

                            Paul,
I'm sorry to hear that you are having this problem with GHC anc Paul Baker.

When I sent my original fuel pump to him for rebuilding, it took 74 days for me to get it back. I thought that I would never see it again. After repeated telephone calls, messages left, and letters to Paul B., I finally got my fuel pump.

I don't think that he is going to totally rip you off on the parts that you purchased. I believe that you will eventually get them and I hope that they will meet your expectations.

I do agree with the members that think that the Driveline should no longer accept advertisements from GHC. If Paul Baker got a letter from the folks that control the Driveline saying that the NCRS can no longer accept his advertising because of negative customer feedback and dissatisfaction, he might change the way that he does business.

Again, Paul, I'm sorry for your problem and fustration. Best of luck.

                            Regards,
                            Gene

Please let us know what you intend to do about getting your money back. Is there anything you think the NCRS or it's members can do to help you?

I would suggest that you contact the DA for the county that GH has his business. The DA's office will have a division that handles consumer fraud like this. With the large amount of money involved, they may jump right on it or not. If you need help on finding the DA's office, maybe someone that lives there will send you the info., or let me know as my son-in-law is a DA in another state.
