    STILL LOOKING FOR "FACE NUT"

I'm trying to find what I think is called a face nut. Thin, round nut with knurled edges for hand tightening. Smaller version of what I need comes with small on/off toggle switches sold in hardware stores. The closest I've come is to find what I need, but too small. I need one about 5/8" inside dia. It's to hold the hazard warning switch in place on the parking brake handle bracket on a '66. I've tried calling Midwest Fasteners and other companies as well as looking in all my local hardware and auto parts stores...

Re: STILL LOOKING FOR "FACE NUT"

    Rob,
I know exactly what you are describing but could not find it in my Grainer or my McMaster-Carr catalog.
I have seen aftermarket "idiot" lights sold at auto parts stores for things like parking brake and you might be able to get something like that to scavenge the nut and just toss the lamp assembly in your toolbox.
I also just pulled a large Radio Schack toggle switch from my parts bin and found that it is held in place by a black plastic hex nut that measures slightly larger than 5/8 but not quite 3/4. I don't know if that helps you. If you have a black interior that might work but obviously is not factory original.
The part number is 275-643 and it is a DPDT Paddle Switch. (I am not a delaer, I just have stuff on hand in case I need it sometime)If this helps and you can't find the switch, let me know and I will send you the nut as I have 3 or 4 of these switches laying around. As I said, it is a little larger than 5/8 but not 3/4 using a drill index with holes to measure.
    Kurt

      Kurt,

Thanks for the info and the offer. The original one is chrome and round. I'll keep trying to find it, but thanks again for the offer...I'll look at some more auto parts for a switch that might happen to have it, as you say.

rob: try your local junkyards. mid 60's chevy pickups were offered with the optional hazard light switch. mike
