    Deer and Corvettes

Luckily, these two don't come together too often. We just had one report here not too long ago but from reports, this may become more common. According to this article, 15,000 deer are hit by cars each year in Minnesota alone.

Ask Patrick Hulst about a deer and one of his Corvettes, unless that is the one you are referring about.

That's the one. There was also one in The Corvette Restorer a few years back, a mid year that got the front crushed pretty much.

When dealing with the insurance company be careful to say, "a deer ran into my car" as opposed to, "my car hit a deer". At least in NJ the insurance companies seem to split hairs and respond more favorably if the deer hit you. Of course insurance companies will discount police statements if not favorable to assigning driver fault. The reason being is because the officer did not witness the accident.

Deer collisions peak during the times vettes are put up for the winter and come out of hibernation in late spring. Deer are most active in October/ November when they fall in love and are active ALL DAY and all night. The other peak occurs around fawning as does go off to secluded pockets of brush and woods to give birth and then again as the does begin to herd up with their newborns. This happens in late spring, about May/ June. Most hits in the spring are early morning of late pm.

A smaller deer will fit into the trunk of an early vette with the lid closed.

Being in the SW mnts, this area is what Colorado used to look like 50 yrs ago. Now our dodging is more the Elk, Big horn Sheep and ocassional Mnt. Lion, instead of Denver traffic. During rut season I watched a 6X6 Elk trash a Pickup on U.S 50 he felt the PU was competion to his loved one. Felt bad for the truck owner but was kinda funny too. Intresting story he have to tell his Ins agent, then try to get paid. Some bean counter will take umberge with it.

My brother and his wife got attacked on his motorcycle by a deer. I wish we had it on tape. I'm sure we could have sold it to the TV show "When Animals Fight Back". This was no Bambie, but a very large deer. The bike didn't go down, but a visit to the emergency room was needed.

Bucks really do get stupid when they go into rut.

I had a p_ssed off buck chase after my poor ole fourteen year old Beagle just because she was barking at him and his lady fair from her wireless fence boundry.

Lucky for her, she was close enough to her dog door in the the garage where she could stuff her fat little hiney through just before Buckzilla got to her.

Of course I was five mile away on a mountain top freezing my assets off looking for Mr. stupid.

                    Go figure huh?

Years ago, when we lived in foothills. (Evergreen, Colo.) My neighbor's dog was chased round and round her house by a huge elk. We called him Samson, he was 7X8 with freaky horns dressed out over 800lbs.easy. The main guy for a small herd of apx. 125 elk. Poor Lucica was run ragged round her own house till the elk stopped and took a dump on the front stoop. They get crazy but not all that dumb. He left his statement.

Pennsylvania is the #1 state for car-deer collisions, and Michigan is #2 - we have over 60,000 car-deer collisions every year per AAA. The paper said yesterday that we have 750,000 hunters in the woods right now in Michigan (that's the equivalent of fifty infantry divisions), some of whom are actually after deer . Hooker visibility in Detroit is way down this week, as most of them have headed "Up North" where the customers are

i had a friend who went "dear" every year and his wife said when he took his dress clothes it was OK but the year he went and did not take his rifle she put her foot down.

A deer ran through my grandmothers

house about 20 years ago when she was having a wake for my great uncle. She had an enclosed breezeway/patio between the garage and the kitchen and heard a crash. Openned the door to see a buck looking at her. She closed the door and heard another crash as the deer crashed through the other side of the breezeway. The incident made made Paul Harvey's broadcast since she lived in a Chicago suburb called Deerfield.
