    1960 Parts Questions

    1. Are the left and right top tank radiator supports the same part? The 1960 AIM does not show anything, unless I am missing some pages. Mine looks like the left is the right side upside down and vice versa. Is this correct? They seem to fit fine. Were these painted or left unpainted like the radiator?

    2. What does the number on the power window and power top Littel Fuse mounted on the right upper firewall indicate? My original has 40A stamped, and I have another another with 30A. My car is early January, #2348 with both power windows and power top.

    Thanks -

    David-----

I don't think that the 1960 radiator top tank supports were ever a SERVICE-available item. I think that they were supplied as part of the radiator assembly. If they appear to be the same, I expect that they were the same.

The "30A" and "40A" when associated with a fuse, I would expect to represent 30 AMPS and 40 AMPS.

      Joe -

The supports are not perfectly the same, in that one end has an angled cut, the other end a square cut. When mounted, the square cut end is on top of one side and the bottom of the other, while providing perfect support for the radiator.

I thought the same for the 30A and 40A, wondering if one was a power window only or a power top only and one was a power window and power top.

      Thanks for the input.

        PW/PT Breaker...

David - I believe all were 40 Amp and only one was used if the car had one or both options.

Thanks John and Dennis. I do not have an old parts book to check on the possibility of two part numbers, one for a 30 and one for a 40. My 40A was in one of the coffee cans that came with the car 25 years ago so I an assuming it is the right part versus the 30A that I bought last summer. Did passenger cars use the same setup? Dennis, you have, or used to have a '62 with power windows, did it have a 40A?

I have a 1960 original Powertop/Power Window car myself (#512). I have the original fuse setup and it is stamped 40A on the metal part. Hope this helps.

                David: PW/PT Breaker...

...David, Yes, it had a 40 amp breaker for the PW. Also had a '58 w/PW w/a 40 amp breaker. Don't know all the answers, but have not yet heard of a PW/PT car that had any other than a 40 amp breaker... Best, Dennis

Thanks guys, it sounds like the 40A is the one to use. D & A thought the 30A might be a 63-67 component.

'63-'67 used a 30-amp breaker for the headlight motor feed circuit.
